Christina Lake principal headed to Grand Forks Secondary

After 13 years as principal of Christina Lake Elementary School, Shawn Lockhart will become principal of Grand Forks Secondary next school year.

In an open letter to staff, students, and families, Lockhart said it was “difficult to put into words what a privilege and honour it has been” to serve at the school in Christina Lake.

“Throughout my time here, I have had the opportunity to work alongside an incredibly dedicated and caring staff, supportive parents, and community members who consistently place students at the heart of everything they do,” he said.

“Together, we have celebrated successes, faced challenges, and created countless memories that I will carry with me for years to come.”

He said the elementary school is “truly a special place” that is “built on strong relationships, deep family roots, and traditions that have connected generations of students and families. The sense of belonging, pride, and community that exists within these walls is remarkable. Our students are fortunate to attend such a strong community school where they are supported, encouraged, and inspired to grow and succeed.”

Morgan Adrain, the vice-principal for the past three years, will be the new principal. Lockhart said Adrain has been an “integral part” of the school’s leadership team and community.

“I know she will continue to build upon the many strengths that make Christina Lake Elementary such an exceptional place to learn and grow,” Lockhart said.

He added that although he’s moving on to the high school, he’s looking forward to reconnecting with many of his former students in the years ahead as they reach secondary school.

Lockhart has also been serving as the principal of Dr. D.A. Perley Elementary and the district principal of technology.

Perley’s new principal will be Jon Dowswell, who taught at Perley prior to becoming vice-principal at Grand Forks Secondary.
