Category 2 open fires will be banned throughout the Southeast Fire Centre as of noon Friday.
The BC Wildfire Service says the move is to prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety. The prohibition will remain in place until Oct. 31.
This prohibition does not include campfires.
Category 2 open fires are those fires are a single pile not exceeding two metres high by three meters wide or burning grass over an area of less than 0.2 hectares.
Also banned are air curtain burners, carbonizers, fireworks, binary exploding targets, burn barrels or burn cages of any size, and controlled air incinerators.
Larger Category 3 fires were banned on May 21.
At the moment, the only wildfire burning in the Southeast Fire Centre is a human-caused blaze at Teetzel Creek near Creston, which is under control. It stands at 0.02 of a hectare.
