Several Kootenay organizations are receiving financial support through the B.C. Parks Licence Plate Program for community-led conservation projects.
In 2026, the Community Park Enhancement Fund is providing $350,000 to 106 community projects focused on conservation initiatives and recreation enhancements in parks and protected areas across B.C.
The projects include efforts to improve trails and accessibility, restore ecosystems, protect wildlife, manage invasive species and support educational and cultural programs.
Funding comes from sales of B.C. Parks licence plates. Each project is eligible for up to $5,000.
“The Community Park Enhancement Fund empowers local organizations, volunteers and Indigenous partners to identify and lead small projects that make a difference for the people who frequently use and help steward parks,” said Tamara Davidson, Minister of Environment and Parks.
Since 2013 the Community PEF has been collaborating with Indigenous partners, community groups, volunteers, academic researchers and non-profit organizations, helping them deliver projects.
“For nearly a decade, the BC Parks License Plate Program has helped fund meaningful improvements in parks across the province. These community-led projects demonstrate the power of partnerships in making parks more inclusive, welcoming and sustainable for everyone.” said Davidson.
