Gunshot wound killed Grand Forks-area man, pathologist testifies

The pathologist who performed the autopsy on Joshua Lockwood says the cause of death was a single gunshot wood.

Dr. Lucy Bradley testified Monday before a jury in Rossland Supreme Court as part of Sean Tiessen’s manslaughter trial.

She said the bullet that went in under Lockwood’s right armpit traveled to his ribs, lungs, and heart. She also described bruises on both arms, scrapes on a knuckle, and the back of an opposite hand, as well as his cheek and leg.

Toxicology tests detected alcohol, cannabis, and methamphetamines in his sytem.

Bradley testified the shot could not have been from extremely close range, while earlier, defense lawyer Paul McMurray asked a police gunshot residue expert about the implications of a shot coming from six feet away.

According to the prosecutors, Tyson told a 911 operator, Lockwood came at him with an axe. An RCMP identification officer agreed Lockwood’s arm could have been raised, while Bradley agreed Lockwood could have had his hands on his hips or have his arms outstretched.

An RCMP Major Crimes Unit investigator is the Crown’s final witness and is expected to testify Tuesday.

Lockwood died in a rural home on Granby Road in rural Grand Forks in April 2023.
