Grand Forks arena resumes programming following fire

Only a few hours after an update expressed doubt about when the Jack Goddard Arena in Grand Forks would reopen, the facility has been cleared to resume programming.

It follows a suspicious fire last month that damaged the building and saw the entire facility filled with smoke.

In a Facebook post, Grand Forks Recreation said it has received approval to resume all arena programming.

“That means it’s time to get back to what this place does best — hockey, skating, practices, games, community events and everything that makes our arena such an important part of Grand Forks,” the post said.

“A huge thank you to everyone who has supported us, waited patiently, adapted schedules and continued to cheer us on while crews worked through the necessary cleaning, testing and safety processes following the fire.”

The Border Bruins will play an exhibition game at home on Saturday.

However, the recreation office remains closed for the time being. It is operating out of the RDKB building inspection office at 2140 Central Ave.
