Boundary bear deaths down in 2016

Bear deaths in the Boundary were dramatically lower in 2016 than the previous year but human attractants remain an issue.

Six bears were destroyed compared to 39 in 2015, 37 of them at Christina Lake.

Grand Forks mayor Frank Konrad hopes residents can take more responsibility in 2017.

The Boundary Wildlife Coalition also formed last year.

They plan to host public meetings in the coming months to spread awareness and information.
