Prescribed burn planned in Granby Provincial Park

The BC Wildfire Service and BC Parks will conduct a prescribed burn near the Blue Joint wildfire in Granby Provincial Park on Thursday, weather permitting.

The Blue Joint wildfire covers about 1,824 hectares. The prescribed-burn site is about 58 km northwest of Grand Forks. This lightning-caused wildfire is burning in a remote area and is not threatening any communities or structures. It was discovered on Aug. 8, and is classified as a modified response fire, which means that it is being monitored closely and assessed regularly, but is not being actively suppressed.

The BC Wildfire Service says the goal of the prescribed burn is to create a fuel break to protect merchantable timber, reduce the amount of dead and combustible material in the area, delay the growth of competing vegetation and decrease the risk of future catastrophic wildfires in the area.
