The by-election in Grand Forks for the vacant council seat has been set for May 28th.
Some citizens had wanted it to happen before then.
But Councillor Chris Thompson says there are rules to be followed now that the city has appointed their elections officer.
The notice of nomination is already underway and runs till April 6th.
The actual nomination period lasts 11 days and starts April 12th.
Councillor Michael Wirischagen resigned last summer.
