Crews Respond to Multiple Fires, Rivers to Rise

Grand Forks Fire and Rescue was called to two fires on Monday afternoon. A wild-land fire on Spencer Hill at about 4:30PM and a possible structure fire on the west-end of town around 7:30PM. The possible structure fire turned out to be an open-burn containing hazardous materials. Fire Chief Dale Heriot says to always take hazardous materials to the landfill instead.

The wild-land fire was an open-burn blown out of control by wind charring a utility pole. Heriot says there’s safety measures that could have helped.

He adds that water levels are expected to rise soon.

The fire department will get information out to the public regarding sandbags and more in following weeks.
