*UPDATE* 241 properties now on evacuation alert in Boundary region

Evacuation alerts are in effect for 241 properties around Grand Forks and the Boundary region as river levels continue to rise.  An additional 53 properties in the Nursery and Darcy area were added to those already on alert. Corporate Information Officer Frances Maika with the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary says says they don’t know how much rain is in the forecast yet, but things will most likely get worse before they get better.

Maika says those impacted need to have an evacuation plan.

Earlier today, evacuation alerts were issued for 65 properties in Johnson Flats, 88 near Edwards-Gilpin, 91 in Almond Gardens and 47 between Westbridge and Beaverdell.

There’s more information on the RDKB’s website.

Flooding or imminent flooding has forced the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary to place 188 properties on evacuation alert.

This covers 65 properties in Johnson Flats, 88 near Edwards-Gilpin, 91 in Almond Gardens and 47 between Westbridge and Beaverdell. Residents have been advised to be prepared to evacuate their homes on short notice if needed.

The RDKB has also raised its Emergency Operations Centre to Level 2 due to rising rivers in the area.

Localized flooding has resulted from high waters in the Kettle River, West Kettle River, Granby River and Boundary Creek.

Grand Forks City Park’s campground is closed due to flooding and minor flooding was reported at Manly Meadows Raod near Grand Forks and Blythe Rhone Road near Westbridge.

The RDKB says rivers are predicted to continue rising throughout the week, but heavy rains and high temperatures could force the rivers to behave differently than predicted.

Residents are reminded to be careful near river banks.
