Grand Forks Theatre Damaged By Flood

The Gem Theatre has remained a vital component of the community for over a century, but some memories were lost with the flood. The cinema was constructed in 1913 as the Empress Theatre and played silent movies, and was renamed in the 50’s about 30 years before Maureen Paquet and her husband took ownership. Paquet says they’re not yet sure how much the damage will cost them.

She says the basement contained equipment and collectables.

The lobby remained relatively untouched.

Maureen and husband Marius Paquet are staying hopeful.

She adds that clean-up has begun, and some new seating is in order.
