RDKB to open Flood Resilience Centre on Saturday

Things are slowly transitioning into the recovery phase after flooding in Grand Forks and the Boundary region.

Only 12 properties remain on Evacuation Order because of geotechnical hazards.

The river forecast is looking good and there’s no significant rainfall expected as of right now.

Regional District of Kootenay Boundary’s Emergency Operations Centre Director Chris Marsh says getting the downtown core open is still a big priority and wildfire crews and other personnel have been helping remove sandbags and tiger dams.

Marsh says they’re working on a recovery plan which could take several years to complete.

He says on Saturday they’ll open a Flood Resilience Centre in the Curling Club at 9:00am with a pancake breakfast at 8:00am.

The Centre will bring twenty different agencies under one roof to answer flood victims’ questions and provide assistance.

Roly Russel, Chair of the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary says the Province will help with tipping fees but the details aren’t worked out yet.

Another update from the RDKB is happening tomorrow afternoon.
