*UPDATED* Tipping Fees Lifted, Resilience Centre Opens

Another update from the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary’s Emergency Operations Centre. The EOC is currently operating at level 2, and is estimated to run for about another week in Grand Forks. EOC Director Chris Marsh says they’re looking at what more can be done for next year.

He adds that regarding the precautionary pumping of Saddle Lake Dam, there’s plans to install a spillway to further improve water-level management. The EOC rescinded evacuation alerts for Electoral Areas C, D, and E, including Grand Forks, Christina Lake, and Midway. Also Saturday a Resilience Centre opened at the Grand Forks curling club, and will be open from 9AM to 6PM for the foreseeable future.

Those affected by flooding in the Boundary no longer have to pay tipping fees for disposing of flood debris. An invoice will be sent to the province for reimbursement by facility staff, and the Grand Forks landfill’s hours are extended to 8:30AM to 4PM until further notice. RDKB Information Officer Frances Maika has advice for taking waste to the landfill.

Other waste facilities across the RDKB will follow their regular hours. For more information click here.
