Highway 3 charging network launched in Creston

Electric vehicles are gaining in popularity and the Kootenays are now prepared. Highway 3 is now an electric highway from the Alberta Border to Greenwood and beyond. Trish Dehnel with the Accelerate Kootenays Project says many people made their way over the Kootenay Pass in an electric vehicle for the ribbon cutting ceremony in Creston on Friday.

Dehnel says it’s something to be proud of.

The majority of the 13 Direct Current Fast Chargers are now in place with 40 Level 2 chargers to be installed by the end of the summer.

The project started two years ago with funding from the three regional districts – East Kootenay, Central Kootenay and Kootenay Boundary. Funding was received from many other sources as well to reach the total $1.8-million cost.
