Owen Rooney is an Australian tourist that went missing from Boundary District Hospital in August 2010. Mother Sharron Rooney says they’ve come to accept his passing, which differs from accepting his disappearance.
In June 2017 Owen’s remains were discovered near the base of Hardy Mountain. Sharron says more remains were found this April and a gathering took place this weekend with some locals who kept contact. They’re still not sure what caused his death.
She says families in similar situations should act on anything you can as soon as you can, and the first few days are vital. Adding that we’re all responsible to let our families know where we are and if we want to be contacted. Sharron says not one person refused them of anything they needed, and they are forever grateful for the communities support. She adds that Grand Forks Search and Rescue was invaluable in their search, and thanks them for their efforts.
Rooney says that the gathering was a positive and happy occasion, and the family will return home easier.
