RCMP are investigating after the West Boundary Landfill near Greenwood was broken into on the evening of July 3. Three piles of wood were lit on fire, as well as the compactor and loader. Tim Dueck, Solid Waste Management Coordinator with the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary says there’s a significant financial impact, but the key thing was the fire didn’t spread to the surrounding forest.

Dueck says although there is significant damage to some of the equipment, operations will continue as per normal at the landfill.
