Vehicle Sparks Granby Road Blaze

A familiarly close call last week when a fire broke out up Granby Road. What was initially a medical call last Friday between 4:30 and 5 in the morning changed for the worse, when a vehicle went off the road, rolled down a bank and caught fire.

Fire Chief Dale Heriot says tending to the blaze went smoothly. “There was one occupant in the vehicle, they’d got out of the vehicle and they were up on the road, otherwise not really any difficulties other than the road to get down to it I suppose was a little bit tougher to get down to but that’s all.”

He adds tending to the blaze took about an hour. “Well by the time we got the vehicle out and the wild-land fire it was probably a better part of an hour to make sure that everything was right out and cold, always one of the advantages when you have a fire is, especially wild-land fire, especially if it’s in the middle of the night, they have a tendency to not be quite as active as one that would’ve happened during the day.”

Heriot also says the location of the incident is quite close to where a motor home went off Granby Road a couple of months ago, also starting a fire.
