CL Stewardship Society Hosts Public Meetings

There’s more to vote for on election day than you might have heard about, and the Christina Lake Stewardship Society wants to help.

President Jeff Olsen says RDKB Bylaw #1678 is on the table. “That bylaw is specific to approving a very small tax increase to all electors to support the hiring of a director for the B.I.W.S. and the B.I.W.S. stands for Boundary Integrated Watershed Service.”

A small increase to the net taxable value of land and improvements for Areas C, D, and E would be included. The Stewardship Society’s board and staff support the bylaw.

Olsen says the project has long been considered. “The name is new but the idea is very old it’s been around for a very long time and it’s something that everyone in our area has been hoping for, in that we will have a person involved with government, who we can sort of have access to, and they can assist us in coordinating projects and ideas”

He adds because all five Regional Directors have been acclaimed, there’s concerns regarding voter turnout. Information sessions are being held September 28th at the Christina Lake Community Hall regarding the bylaw, as well as potential changes to the First-Past-The-Post voting principle. Referendums for both of those topics are being held October 20th.
