Community Futures Boundary Receives Provincial Funding

Community Futures Boundary has received funding to aid in the development of a community centre.

Manager of Community Economic Development Jennifer Wetmore explains. “We have received funding from the Province to develop a business plan feasibility study, for a community centre in Grand Forks. So we do not have funding to build a community centre, we have money to develop a feasibility study business plan around the concept of a community centre here.”

With the $100,000 Rural Dividend grant, the study will help provide detailed plans such as architectural drawings, logistics, costs, and more.

Wetmore says they have a location in mind. “There has been considerable attention paid to looking at locating the centre up in the area of where current recreational facilities exist. We by no means want to duplicate recreational service that already exist in the community, and there is some discussion about possibly looking at a rebuild or a makeover of the curling club”

She adds the project could help ensure that the curling sheets remain in the community, while also supporting the curling club. Additional locations would be considered if it wasn’t the right fit. A product will be presented to the City and Regional District, to determine if the project should continue. Wetmore says the community could use a place to gather, host conferences, provide recreational space, and it could also serve as an appropriate location for the Emergency Operations Centre.
