Winter Housing, Wellness Program & More Discussed in Recovery Updates

There was no Boundary Flood Recovery Update Meeting on Wednesday but there were some updates released from the Recovery Team.

Funds for a Wellness Program have been approved and should be rolled out next month. Also the “Talking Helps” program has been rolled out online, and medical staff have reached out to 6 North Ruckle households affected by flooding to assess their current level of needs.

While volunteer debris cleanup efforts continue, funding has been secured for a qualified professional to study the watershed and give recommendations for bank stabilisation.

The Recovery Team has checked in with most people on the housing needs list to re-establish opportunities, and they’ve also worked to increase how many rentals are available. Residents are starting to be matched with motel rooms for the Winter, while the ins and outs of modular units continues to be discussed.

The draft long term recovery plan is being reviewed, and one on one followups with businesses are being carried out. Efforts to provide DFA and appeal process information continue, as well as advocating for the Agriculture Sector which has largely unmet needs.

Work has been started in Grand Forks to remove the Tiger Dam anchors, and repair Riverside Drive and 72nd Avenue. In Greenwood a registered berm was assessed for removing temporary works and repairing permanent works. In Midway the Lancashire Bridge was reviewed for potential water main river crossing.
