Martin Fromme is the new Mayor for the Village of Midway. He’s previously served 6 years on Council, and says it’s a humbling experience to receive such confidence from the community.
Fromme says he’s a long time resident. “I’ve been in Midway since 1969, I came here the year that Boundary Central Secondary School opened I was the first physical science teacher, and I have spent all my teaching career in various capacities in Midway, right up to today where I’m a distributed learning teacher.”
He also says he’s pleased to have the opportunity. “There’s such joy in seeing all the avenues you can help a community, and that’s why I ran in the first place because it is, to me, the office that has the greatest opportunity to serve a community, it’s well being, it’s happiness, and so I am just very pleased I have this opportunity.”
Fromme says one of his concerns is regarding communication, and ensuring residents are aware of what’s on-going in the community. One example is having a condensed version of council’s minutes publicly available. Another of Fromme’s concerns includes increasing Midway’s economy beyond the mill by encouraging small industries, and the cottage industry; he’d also like to enhance Midway’s tourism exposure.
