Christina Lake Stewardship Society hosts annual review

If you want to learn more about water quality, fisheries, and wildlife in the region, the Christina Lake Stewardship Society are holding an event just for you! It’s the Stewardship Society’s Christina Lake Watershed Management Plan Annual Review facilitated by Area C Director Grace McGregor and Stewardship Manager Brenda Lacroix.

Lacroix says there’s a lot being covered. “It’s basically to inform people about what’s going on. What’s the status of the watershed? How is our water quality? How are our fisheries? What aquatic or terrestrial invasives [sic] are occurring and where we’re at with the Aquatic Invasive Species Program because we partnered with the province on that one.”

She adds that there’s a few highlighted topics, including a visit from flood experts. “The people that take care of underwater stewardship, they’ll be in coming to talk about flood mitigation and the water act. That’s kind of a highlight because we’re all still going through that right? The other one is aquatic invasive species, like the zebra and quagga mussel is huge.”

Lacroix says she’s been with the Society for about 22 years and this is their biggest annual event. She also adds that the stewardship society was formed as a kitchen-table committee in 1994 and became official in 2001. The event hits the Christina Lake Community Hall on Wednesday, November 21 from 10:00AM to 3:00PM.
