Boudary Métis Association Celebrations Louis Riel Day

Louis Riel day was celebrated in Grand Forks today!

Boundary Métis Community Association Board Member Jacqueline Lessard explains. “Today is the celebration, exciting celebration, of the first inaugural Métis flag raising ceremony in the Boundary.”

Lessard applauds the School District. “There is an indigenous education advisory committee to the school district, and so the school district has been a major player and a major partner for First Nation, Métis, and Inuit peoples here and the education of their children.”

She adds that it’s her third year representing the Métis nation on that committee. To commemorate the day of Louis Riel’s death in 1885 the Métis flag was raised in Gyro Park for the weekend. A potluck is also being held at the Slavonic Seniors Centre tonight at 5:30PM. It features traditional Métis food, brief history about Louis Riel, drumming and more.
