Fire & Rescue Members Awarded in Council Chambers

An award presentation kicked off Monday evening’s Grand Forks City Council meeting. Fire Chief Dale Heriot and Firefighter Lyle Dorner received service awards from Mayor Brian Taylor.

Mayor Taylor says Dorner joined Grand Forks Fire & Rescue in 1988. “He has previously worked his way up to Captain in the department and now enjoys his position as a ranked firefighter, mentoring other firefighters junior to him.”

Dorner celebrated his 30 years with the department in March. He’s also involved with the Volunteer Association through fundraising and parades.

Mayor Taylor says Heriot was appointed Deputy Chief in 2007. “On the first morning in his role as Deputy Chief, he was rewarded with two houses next to each other on fire at the same time. In 2012 after the retirement of chief McGregor, Dale was promoted to Fire Chief and his inauguration included two hotels on fire at the same time as well.”

Heriot joined Grand Forks Fire & Rescue as a volunteer in 1998, and celebrated 20 years with the department back in May.
