GF Fire Crews Keep Busy

Grand Forks Fire and Rescue had a busy day last Thursday. Deputy Fire Chief Richard Piche says they received four calls in a very short period of time, two of which where Motor Vehicle Incidents.

He adds that one MVI was a roll over that required extrication. “They had to use what we call a Sawzall cutter, and they removed the windshield and the roof to get the driver out of the vehicle.”

Both single-vehicle incidents occurred roughly around the Eholt Summit rest stop on Highway 3 due to slushy and icy road conditions.

Piche says another one of the calls came from downtown. “Then we had a false alarm downtown where they were doing some reno’s [sic], and one of the workers accidentally pulled one of the smoke-detector wires which set that off.”

Another of the calls was regarding downed Telus lines.
