An opportunity for local agricultural producers regarding wildfire safety. BC Agriculture & Food Climate Action Initiative is hosting a Farm & Ranch Wildfire Preparedness Workshop in Grand Forks. It’s a brand new initiative, and the 6th workshop in a series of 10 across the province.
RDCK Wildfire Mitigation Specialist Kevin Smith explains:
“We have a great day lined up with all sorts of educational aspects bringing people up to snuff on FireSmart and specifically where structure loss occurs in the event of the wildfire, so a lot of great educational information.”
Smith says a Preparedness Workbook is one highlight:
“The real crux of it is this fantastic new opportunity that agricultural operators can take advantage of being the workbook. Specifically then they have a record of the strengths and weaknesses and the required actions that they can take before a wildfire, during a wildfire, and then again after a wildfire.”
Agricultural producers complete the workbook themselves to share with their employees and family. The workshop will help develop customized wildfire preparedness plans for agricultural producers, and various wildfire response agencies will also be present. Topics of discussion include combustible materials, evacuation planning, and livestock. The workshop runs 8:30AM to 3PM on March 5th at 7353 6th Street.
