Council tackles 8th Street re-zoning, Public Hearing set

A zoning bylaw amendment received first and second reading on Monday in Grand Forks council chambers, and a Public Hearing is now on the horizon. The re-zoning, from R-1 (Residential Single and Two-Family) to R-4 (Rural Residential), is for the 7600 block of 8th street to accommodate agricultural producers and activities. The land is at the base of Observation Mountain.

Council also passed a motion to prepare and register a covenant to ensure that the wetland and drainage area is protected, development will not impact the area or ground water, and farming operations are respecting sensitive aquifers and nearby urban areas. Before third reading is considered, a Public Hearing goes June 24th at 1PM in council chambers.
