UPDATED: Tactical evacuation at Christina Lake due to wildfire rescinded

The Regional District of Kootenay Boundary (RDKB) emergency operations centre has rescinded (removed) the evacuation orders and alerts for properties affected by the Spaulding Creek fire in Christina Lake.

No homes were lost in this fire.

“We are grateful to fire crews for their quick response to this event,” says Mark Stephens, EOC Director. “We are also thankful to Red Cross volunteers for establishing a reception centre so promptly.”

He commended affected residents for their cooperation and for following all evacuation orders.

The Regional District of Kootenay Boundary (RDKB) emergency operations centre has been activated to a level 2 due to the Spaulding Creek wildfire burning at East Lake Drive and Brown Road in Christina Lake. Currently, 42 residences have been evacuated and another 208 are on evacuation alert.

Red Cross emergency support services will be opening a reception centre the Community Hall at 90 Park Hall.

Anyone on evacuation alert can pre-register online for emergency support services at https://ess.gov.bc.ca/

“This is a dynamic situation,” said Mark Stephens, EOC Director.

“Local and BC Wildfire Service crews are on the scene. Please listen to responders as evacuation orders are issued.”

Everyone is asked to follow the RDKB’s website and social media channels for the most up-to-date information.

A tactical evacuation is in place at Christina Lake, in and around Brown Rd, Caitlin Rd and Kensington Pl, due to a wildfire Sunday afternoon, September 29.

“If you have been evacuated or feel unsafe, please head to the parking lot of the Christina Lake Community Hall and wait for ESS volunteers.” said Regional District for Kootenay Boundary.

The fire was allegedly started by downed power lines.

Highway 3 near East Lake Drive in Christina Lake is closed as on 4pm Sunday afternoon.
