Tomorrow is scheduled to be the Warming Centre’s last day at 7500 Donaldson Drive in Grand Forks. That according to the Grand Forks Gazette, which reports that the building’s landlord sent facility-operators a letter earlier this month asking that the building be vacated by July 31st.
This follows Grand Forks City Council’s discussion last month concerning the current zoning definition at that location, and whether it allows for overnight accommodation. The Centre has been offering support services to the homeless, including having somewhere to sleep, since opening on a 100-day contract last Winter. Whispers of Hope offers administrative oversight to the facility and had representatives present to council weeks ago to answer questions and address concerns.
