The Regional District of Central Kootenay should take an even bigger role in wildfire mitigation work.
So says rural Nelson director Tom Newell whose area saw the big Sitkum-Duhamel fire last year, pictured above.
Newell thinks taxpayers would be willing to pay a little more to see the work gets done faster.
In the meantime he hopes more communities will follow Queens Bay’s lead in becoming FireSmart.
