Grand Forks RCMP launches online crime reporting tool

The RCMP Online Crime Reporting Tool (OCRe) allows residents to report minor crimes online that fall within a certain criteria, particularly crimes if there are no suspects or witnesses and no police presence is required.

Citizens will be able to report the following crimes:
• Damage/mischief to vehicle or property under $5,000
• Hit and run to an unoccupied vehicle or property
• Theft of bicycle or other property under $5,000
• Theft from vehicle under $5,000
• Stolen license plates or insurance validation decals
• General driving behavior reports that are not currently in progress

There must not be any follow-up by police required, or:
• Any witnesses or suspects (excluding traffic related complaints)
• Any items lost or stolen over $5,000
• Any damages over $5,000
• No items involving personal identity or firearms

Sgt Darryl Peppler, Detachment Commander for the Grand Forks RCMP said that, “The Online Crime Reporting Tool will allow the general public to report non-emergency crimes through the Detachment website, with the goal of freeing up time for front line personnel, including both police dispatchers and police officers, to respond to more serious crimes or emergencies.” he added, “This online system highlights our efforts to actively modernize our police operations throughout the province and keep up with technological advances.”
