Boundary evacuation alerts rescinded

Nearly 600 addresses across the Boundary are no longer on evacuation alert.

The Regional District of Kootenay Boundary’s regional emergency operations centre says it has rescinded alerts for 47 addresses in Midway and 550 addresses across the rest of the region, from Carmi to Christina Lake that lie within the 200-year flood plain. The alerts affected nearly 1,200 residents.

“We are currently seeing river levels drop and the current models show that river levels will continue to drop over the next several days,” said emergency operations director Mark Stephens.

The largest of the alerts was imposed on May 4, meaning nearly three weeks of anxious river watching.

Some Manly Meadows properties in rural Grand Forks remain on evacuation order due to ongoing flood risk. Stephens said most are vacant and of the four that are occupied, only one resident sought emergency support services.
