Grand Forks Border Bruins forward Levi Astill has been named the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League’s top scorer for the second straight season, the league said.
Astill delivered another standout season for the Border Bruins, recording 87 points (27 goals, 60 assists) in 44 games, after posting 91 points last year. He averaged 1.98 points per game to lead the league again.
“Levi‘s commitment to being an athlete and student of the game has helped him accomplish this,” said Border Bruins head coach and general manager Dave Hnatiuk.
The Edmonton native was central to Grand Forks’ offence throughout the season. He put together an 18-game point streak, collecting 43 points (16 goals, 27 assists), and averaged 21:41 of ice time per game.
Astill led the league with eight game-winning goals and played a key role on the Border Bruins’ power play, scoring 11 goals and adding 32 points while logging 207:38 on the man advantage.
He also recorded two hat tricks and had six games with two or more goals.
“His commitment has been extremely consistent and watching him mature on and off the ice has been remarkable,” said Hnatiuk. “He is leaving here as the Border Bruins’ all-time leading scorer (78 goals) and points leader (227 points in 128 career regular-season games) and has set a bar of what dedication and commitment looks like.”
