New trial scheduled in Grand Forks manslaughter case

A man accused in a shooting death at a rural Grand Forks home in 2023 will be tried a second time.

Sean Tiessen, who is charged with manslaughter, appeared in court today where his next trial was fixed to begin in Rossland on June 7, 2027. It had not been confirmed until today how the Crown would proceed in the case.

Tiessen’s first trial ended in a mistrial last month after the jury couldn’t reach a verdict after several days of deliberations. The second trial will also be held before a jury.

Tiessen is accused of killing Joshua Lockwood, 33, in the trailer that they both lived in on Granby Road. There was no dispute that Tiessen shot Lockwood, but the jury has had to weigh Tiessen’s argument of self-defence.
