Accused expected to testify in Grand Forks-area manslaughter case

The man accused of manslaughter in the April 2023 shooting death of Joshua Lockwood near Grand Forks is expected to testify in his own defence on Wednesday.

Sean Tiessen’s lawyer says the plan is to call his client to the witness stand.

Prosecutors say Tiessen told a 911 operator Lockwood threatened him with an axe. The final prosecution witness was the crime scene manager who searched Tiessen’s trailer.

RCMP Sgt. David Mackey said a hatchet was found around the corner from Lockwood at the base of a wall cabinet in the adjoining room. He said it’s unlikely Lockwood threw it there because of the clutter in between.

Mackey also expressed concern about where the shell casing fired from the .22 calibre semi-automatic pistol in question was found, suggesting it doesn’t match up with witness statements about the incident. He couldn’t say if they were moved.

The case is being heard before a jury in Rossland.
