Three cannabis retail stores hoping for council support

Grand Forks City Council will choose whether to recommend or not recommend issuing the stores a license on Monday. The City has received three non-medical cannabis retail store applications so far and council’s decision and any public feedback will be sent to the province who then make the final call. One proposed location is 7480 4th Street, Unit 4, applied for by BAGGY’S CANNABIS STORE. Co-owner James Mckenna represented the operation at the March 11 public hearing. One letter was received which spoke in favour of this licensing request citing the location is a good fit for parking, safety, and inaccessibility to youth.

QUANTUM 1 CANNABIS CORP. is another applicant, proposed for 317 Market Avenue. The public hearing heard no comments for or against this applicant. Two letters speaking against issuing the license were however received from the community.

Applicant BC BASE CAMP INVESTMENT LTD. is proposing to share a liquor stores’s location at 426 Central Avenue. There were no comments made for or against the proposal at the public hearing, although four written letters were against issuing the license.
