Woman dies in Grand Forks crash; third recent fatal collision

A local woman has died after a single vehicle crash in the northwestern section of Grand Forks.

Grand Forks RCMP say the crash happened around 2 p.m. Thursday (Dec. 21) at the intersection of North Fork Road and Coalshute Road.

BC Ambulance paramedics and the Grand Forks Fire Department were attending to the driver and the only person in the vehicle, police said.

The 57-year-old city woman was extricated from the vehicle but died from her injuries at the hospital.

Police have not released her name.

The Mounties say this is the third deadly crash and fourth major collision to happen in The Boundary in just over a week.

The first fatal crash was a head-on near Greenwood that took the life of a 62-year-old Grand Forks woman on Dec. 11. Seven days later (Dec. 18) a 66-year-old man from Grand Forks died in a head-on on Highway 33, north of Rock Creek.

A separate collision on Phoenix Road on Dec. 20 is being investigated by police after an SUV rolled down an embankment. The 63-year-old driver was treated for injuries at the hospital after firefighters were able to free him.
