Council debates gun range, finds compromise

The City of Grand Forks has reached somewhat of a compromise between them and the Grand Forks Wildlife Association. The association was seeking a licence of occupation for the 0.2-1-9 hectares of their gun range that is on city property. The rest of the range is on crown-land with a recently renewed 30 year lease. Councillor Chris Hammett is one of many concerned about the noise-level.

She says it’s like being stuck between a rock and a hard place.

The city requires the range to have tenure and compliance with zoning bylaws which is why it came to council. RCMP and Canadian Border Security also spend training days there. The Wildlife Association was granted a temporary use permit after much debate.
