Block Watch Program Continues to Develop

A Grand Forks Block Watch meeting was held yesterday at Community Futures. It’s purpose was to educate Captains and co-Captains on their roles in respective neighbourhoods. City Bylaw Enforcement Officer and Program Coordinator Bud Alcock says residents are still leaving their vehicles unlocked.

However the power of being a Captain does come with a cost.

He adds that personal belongings should have personal identifiers on them, and a new bylaw could be coming to council soon.

Some Block Watch signs are being strategically placed around neighbourhoods, and stickers were given to Captains to take home. The Block Watch Program is endorsed by the RCMP, and could eventually expand to the Carson Road area in Area D. Alcock also spoke on the possibility of a Business Watch, and Rural Watch in the future- but nothing is confirmed. You can find Block Watch on Facebook.
