Hopes increase for South Slocan pedestrian tunnel

There are now hopes of an improved trails project in South Slocan as various stakeholders work towards constructing a pedestrian tunnel.

Initially residents raised concerns that public access would be lost once the Ministry of Transportation replaces the bridge with fill.

But RDCK area director Walter Popoff says retaining pedestrian access if very important given the link up with other local amenities nearby.

The ministry is prepared to cost-share on a tunnel but wants a financial commitment from the RDCK and local trails society as well.
