Nikkei Legacy Signage unveiled in Greenwood

Nikkei legacy signage was unveiled in Greenwood yesterday.  Chuck Tasaka is originally from the area and is a volunteer on the project. He says Greenwood was the first community to accept Japanese Canadians during the internment in 1942 and wants the story to be told.

The sign is on the Highway 3 across from the Museum and details the history of Japanese Internment throughout the Boundary and province.

The event was a joint commemoration with the family plaques for former Greenwood internees and residents being unveiled at Greenwood Nikkei Legacy Park.

The legacy signage is part of a larger project with signs also unveiled in Slocan Valley, New Denver and Kaslo earlier this summer.
