Salary Increase Approved For Next City Council

Grand Forks City Council approved salary increases for the next Mayor and Councillors. This as the non-taxable portion of municipal officers’ remuneration is being eliminated. It was suggested a committee be formed to help with the process but Council generally agreed there was insufficient time to assemble one after the flood. Grand Forks has a lower annual remuneration for Mayor than surrounding municipalities, but it’s generally higher for Councillors. Mayor Frank Konrad says it’s not about the money.
Councillor Julia Butler says expectations are high.
Chris Hammett says not everyone can afford the job.
Council agreed on a gross annual remuneration of $24,000 for Mayor, and $18,000 for councillors, which is a 2.5% increase from this year.
