Ministry to review report on Kettle-Granby grizzlies

The Ministry of Forests will review a report by the Forest Practices Board on the impact logging roads have on grizzly bears in the Kettle and Granby river area.
In a written statement the Ministry says an inventory conducted on the area’s grizzly population in 2015 showed an increase in their numbers.
Over 543,000 hectares in the area are covered by a government action regulation order which restricts the timing of primary forest activities.
The Ministry feels the board didn’t investigate the effectiveness of the order, instead focusing on the order’s non-legal aspects.
The board concedes population numbers have increased but still feels the roads remain a risk.
